My great, great grandmother wrote to my grandmother with the loveliest penmanship on these postcards (see below), dated 1930s from Ascona, Switzerland.

Beautiful.

A Holiday Tradition

What is your favorite holiday tradition?

Tomorrow with my husband’s aunt, Lucy – I am so excited!:

The Day After

This post has been hanging out in my “drafts” folder.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving holiday.  We spent our holiday in Laguna Beach with my husband’s family.  It was 80° outside – crazy!  It is November, right?  Okay.  Just the wrong place to be when you want to wear sweaters, scarves, and mittens and feel the cool, crisp air hit against your face, and sip your favorite warm beverage by a fireplace.  Ah… just daydreaming for a second.  Back to the reality of it all:  We had a delicious Thanksgiving feast at this restaurant, stayed at a hotel for three nights (and took iPhone photos of the interior textiles – what a nerd), had two mini family reunions (on the husband’s side), and drank enough coffee to make us sick.  Have you ever experienced a Thanksgiving like this before?

My nerdy hotel interior textile photos:

We hit the road tomorrow for a short 10-hour drive home.  Ha!

Invitations for my Dad’s 60th!

My dear dad is turning 60 this year and I made these Italian-inspired invitations for the special occasion.  Why Italian?  Firstly, that is one question you should never have to ask.  *grin*  Secondly, with a last name like Lavagnino, how can you not?

The cover.  If you look close enough (I don’t recommend this), you can see our printer was getting a little tired at this point.  This copy was in the “extras” pile.

California Road Trip Part II

The plan after the Tahoe trip:  drive to Clearlake on Friday where my husband’s uncle resides.  We would meet his parents there for a little birthday celebration, but the plans changed.  I received a call from my dad as we were leaving Tahoe.  My great uncle Ray had passed away.  Without further detail, we drove back home to Santa Rosa.  Talked to my dad when we arrived at home and found out my folks were leaving the next (Saturday) morning for the LA area to support and comfort of the one left behind, Ray’s wife.  So…Husband and I unpacked from Tahoe and repacked for LA,  drove back to Sacramento (where my folks reside) that night, and left with them in the morning to LA.  *Deep breath*

I did not spend too much time with Uncle Ray, but the few memories I have of him are very sweet.  He was a gentle, kind, easy-going man.  He was 91 going on 70, very welcoming, and the first to tell you the story of how he met his wife and their journey through life together.  Like I said before, very sweet.  He will be missed.

Work Is Overrated

That is what my father-in-law said to me…. and I tend to agree with him (I think Thomas does too)!

So, five months later here I am again. I finally pulled my head out of my you-know-where. Maybe not fully out, but just peeking out enough to see what it was like before work, dull and tiresome work.

Ahhhh…..it is nice. I need to do this more often

The pet bed shown above is one of two projects I completed in the last few months – only because the fabric was so cute (polka-dots!) and it was so easy to make. I picked out 1/2 yard of fleece material, folded it in half, sewed down the longer open edge with the wrong sides together, cut 1/2 inch fringe on the shorter edges, stuffed with Poly-fil, and tied the top and bottom layers of fringe in knots…..and that’s it! Real simple. One evening and it’s done.

I think Thomas likes it (heh)….he looks cozy, doesn’t he?
