Muse, MANOS, and Meow

I am very pleased with my finds from yesterday afternoon’s trip to Joann’s:

Finally! I will be able to use one of the two Muse patterns I bought some time last year – the envelope clutch and the everyday handbag. I don’t know what took me so long to get started. Never mind….it is about finding the exact fabric that you can visualize for a specific pattern. And that’s the short and long of it.

Okay, I usually do not spend much time blogging about movies (other than the “Now Playing” on the sidebar), but when you just saw the worst movie ever made the night before….you have to mention something about it!

For those of you who are fans of MST3K might remember “MANOS: The Hands of Fate”. Otherwise, you probably have not heard about this film before and for good reason. It is a 1966 extremely low budget horror film. Horror? Nah….it is supposed to be scary, but I found myself laughing through at least half of the film. I am not going into plot detail here, but use the link above to learn more about the ways of MANOS.

Another Rainy Day

Ahhhh…. yes, another rainy day in Santa Rosa – a good day to stay inside, read a book, and enjoy a hot beverage. Also a good day to head north up to Healdsburg. The best coffee house ever is located along the square, Flying Goat Coffee. Skim honey lattés have been my favorite hot beverage lately….yum yum!

We headed across the street to a little store called Strawberry Creek. They have a little bit of everything cute and quirky – children’s books, adorable hand-sewn cats, stationery and gift wrap, and old-fashioned ice cream bowls. This is what I picked up:

My husband found a typeface book at an antique store for our collection, copyright 1945:

In The Garden

I was pleasantly surprised to find daffodils in our garden this afternoon. And I really mean it was a surprise… I do not recollect planting daffodils or anything for that matter with the exception of a few herbs, but that is beside the point. The yellow is so bright and beautiful! It reminds me of the spring season (already!) – the green rolling hills and blue skies – a gorgeous time of year for us Sonoma County folk. *grin*

A Holiday Hike at Sugarloaf

Monday morning, I made a dutch baby for the first time – good, healthy fuel (a little sarcasm there) for the hike at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park. If you do not know what a dutch baby is, use your search engine of choice or Wikipedia, or look in your old dusty copy of the cookbook, ‘The Joy of Cooking’, or just look below and imagine some jam (or sliced fruit) and powdered sugar on top. They are puffy in the middle right out of the oven, but it does not last too long so they are to be served immediately if you want the full effect.

Sugarloaf Ridge is located in Kenwood, which is east of Santa Rosa. They have many park trails to choose from, a waterfall, and an observatory that leads you right into the Planet Walk. So we started at the observatory, hiked the Planet Walk and continued onto Brushy Peaks Trail, and followed Gray Pine Trail back to the car. One big loop! The highest peak was along the Brushy Peaks Trail at 2243 feet in elevation and the total loop was around 5 miles. It might have been more, but that is my guess. Along the trail, we saw deer, the friendliest jack rabbit…..

….and little flowers from a manzanita tree.

The only disappointment in the hike were the views from the peaks. Not too many picture-taking opportunities…..as you can see.

Chocolate Hearts

I promise this is the last post regarding Valentine’s Day and heart-shaped treats…..really. But would it not be considered selfish to keep these yummy recipes to myself?

Again, it is from Whole Foods. I was able to manage with only having 2 3-ounce bars of dark chocolate. One bar for the cookie dough and the other bar was broken into squares and placed on the heart shaped cookies. It was definitely enough chocolate to satisfy my sweet tooth!

Peppermint Marshmallows + Hot Cocoa Mix

Here are the photos of the Valentine’s Day packages for family.

I was inspired by Brownie Points – she has many recipes for different flavors of marshmallows and much more, and Shim and Sons – for the packaging. And the hot cocoa mix is a recipe from Whole Foods.
