I finally started on the scarf for the exchange!
This is the pattern – minus the “cat paws”. The pattern suggests using Kid Merino yarn and instead, I went with the silk yarn shown a few of posts ago. So I made a couple of changes… hopefully, that will not make too much of a difference and will turn out alright anyway. If not, I will be glad I started early.
Here is a little peek:

Please feel free to make suggestions, comments and etc…. I will appreciate any feedback – good or bad!
It was a foggy day at Point Reyes, but my husband caught a couple of noteworthy photos on the way back from Drakes Beach.

Shy cow:

Later that evening….some tasty treats for a little get-together. It is very unfortunate, but I really liked the way they looked more than how they tasted. I mixed and matched on recipes so it was to be expected. The cupcakes are a very dense, but tasty chai flavored cake from the Post Punk Kitchen. The chocolate flower cakes are also a very dense cake. I used a chocolate mayonnaise cake recipe from BBC with a chocolate coffee topping. Overall, pretty disappointing to me, but I was glad to see that it did not stop our friends from indulging. Even if they were just being polite. *grin*
I have been really anxious to go yarn shopping for my international scarf pal. I made it my mission for today to find the perfect (or as close to it as possible) yarn for her. I headed south to my favorite local yarn shop, Knitterly.
This is what I purchased:

And I love it…kind of funky with all of the different colors intertwined. It is from Alchemy Yarns, a local name that creates their own hand-painted yarns. It is very light and airy and will make a beautiful lace scarf. More importantly, it will be just right for my scarf pal’s climate. So, now that I have the yarn and the pattern chosen, it is time to get to work!
For something completely different…
…and I probably should wait and post this separately, but why not?! I have a Venus Fly Trap that my husband brought home for me several months ago and it sits in our kitchen window. As I was passing by it today, I noticed that it has a little bloom on it. I posted before on this because I really do not know what to do with it at this point. Repot it? Any other suggestions?

What a very pleasant day! We had a surprise visitor, Leslie (shown in the photo below), my husband’s cousin from Monterey. She brought along organic vegetables from the local farmer’s market, dark chocolate biscuits, and very cheery sunflowers for all of us to share and enjoy. And we certainly did!
Leslie mentioned that she must see some redwoods before traveling onward and upward to Redding. Not a problem! You never have to twist my arm for a good hike through the redwoods. So….located in the quirky town of Guerneville (due west of Santa Rosa), there is the beautiful Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve. I would have never guessed something this gorgeous would be out in Guerneville. It is the truth! It is like the Muir Woods of Sonoma County.
Leslie….

….a very impressive tree root system….

…. and the cheery sunflowers.

Over the last couple of days, I have had plenty of time on my hands. My husband has been really sick….and I have a little bit of something, but I thought flowers might bring some cheer into our household.

Another thing that has kept me quite cheerful is the ISE4 (look on the sidebar under Fun Stuff) matchups have been sent out via email. I received information for the person I will be knitting a scarf for. I am very excited! She lives in Spain, which makes it even more interesting. I was really hoping it would be somebody that does not live in the states. *grin* Anyway, I also received an email from the unknown person who will be knitting me a scarf. I love this kind of mystery or surprise….or whatever you would like to call it.
Thank you, Chockylit! She has a great blog for all things cupcake-related – from her great know-how to wonderful recipes with a variety of themes. It has been a definite inspiration to me. Proof: another batch of cupcakes!

This is her old-fashioned chocolate cupcake with coconut buttercream frosting recipe (without the chocolate shavings).
