Wild Strawberries

May is the month that every occasion happens in our family….or so it seems. Lots of birthdays and anniversaries, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, a graduation, and the Maker Faire. Whew! I think that is it. Anyway, today I was on a mission to pick out some last minute goodies for one of the birthdays. Headed out to Bodega, but I was very unsuccessful. However, I stopped at one of the best bakeries in Sonoma County, Wild Flour Bread Bakery. It was along the way in a little town called Freestone. They are known for their wood fired brick oven baked bread. I picked up two chocolate currant scones – one for the freezer and one to share with my husband for tomorrow. *grin*

On the subject of bakeries….I did a little baking myself last weekend. I made cupcakes again. The flavor of choice was Peanut Butter-Banana Chocolate Cupcake with a Caramel Glaze. Here is the recipe. I added the baking soda and halved all of the ingredients, making only a dozen. They were very tasty and shared amongst family and friends.

Belated Birthday Celebration

This weekend we took a short trip over to Sacramento to visit my folks and to catch up with a friend of ours. My folks have wanted to celebrate my husband’s birthday for a few weeks now (his birthday was on the 2nd), but our weekends have been full up until this point. So, they surprised him with a few gifts and dinner at the Melting Pot. The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant and takes about two to three hours to complete your meal. Wait…it is not just a meal, but an adventure and it’s wonderful! Here are a couple of photos from our dining adventure:

This is the main course that included bite-sized strips and slices of tuna, lobster, shrimp, chicken, duck, sirloin, and teriyaki beef. Vegetables included broccoli, zucchini, mushrooms, and potato wedges.

As for dessert, my husband selected the dark chocolate fondue which included pineapple, strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, Oreo-covered marshmallows, brownie bites, and cheesecake. Wow! Thankfully, they did not sing “Happy Birthday”, but just presented the cheesecake with a candle in it.

Feeling full of food as you are reading this? What you do not see here is the fiesta cheese fondue and the salads for appetizers. Yeah….sometimes you do not realize how much food you really ordered until it comes. *grin*

Everything was really yummy…and very sweet of my folks to treat us!

Flowers and Chocolate…

…mean more when it is NOT a special occasion or a holiday, but when it is the least expected. Forewarning: the following contains mushy or sappy material that may make you want to purge your breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My husband surprised me last night with flowers and dark chocolate (he knows!) for no particular reason. Very sweet. He does that kind of thing from time to time and I love it! It is definitely little things in life that can make all the difference in the world. Little tokens of appreciation or something just to say “I am thinking of you”…..everybody needs a little of that.

What I Sent, What I Received

The Vintage Button Swap ended a couple of weeks ago. It was my first swap and I am feeling like somewhat of a dweeb. My swap partner put so much thought and creativity into her package and mine was just lacking in consistency. I don’t know if that is the best phrase to describe it or not, but at one in the morning….almost anything sounds good. Don’t get me wrong. I had a lot of fun putting the package together, but I guess next time I will know more of what is expected.

This is what I sent:

Q & A for the Knitters Coffee Swap

I joined a knitters coffee swap about a week ago that I am very excited about. After all….we are exchanging knitting-related items and (my favorite!) coffee. I like my standard two cups of coffee every morning and if necessary, a little pick-me-up in the afternoon as well.

We are supposed to fill out the following questions to help each other out. So, this is for my swap sister (and for others that might be interested in my coffee and yarn preferences?). *grin*

1. Whole bean or ground? Either.

2. Fully-loaded or decaf? Fully-loaded and then some.

3. Regular or flavored? Either.

4. How do you drink your coffee? Hot, honey with half and half or skim milk

5. Favorite coffee ever? Sumatra from Flying Goat Coffee

6. Are you fussy about your coffee or will any old bean do? Somewhat fussy….I like fresh medium to dark roast coffees and please, no Starbucks. : )

7. Favorite treats to have with your coffee? Biscotti, shortbread, and anything with a little bit of dark chocolate!

8. Anything else about your coffee preferences? No.

9. Yarn/fiber you love? Naturals, merino wool, bamboo, variegated

10. Yarn/fiber you hate? Novelty yarns

11. What’s on your needles? A variegated blue-green scarf for the International Scarf Exchange.

12. Favorite colors? Neutrals and blues

13. Allergies? None.

14. Anything you really love, really don’t like, or just need to get off your chest?
Not at the moment, but that can always change. *grin*

Scrabble Geeks

It has been awhile since I have seen my mum. She lives about two and a half hours away, but with our busy lives (like most of us these days), it is hard to find the time or a weekend free. So finally…. a weekend with my mum! We spent the entire weekend playing Scrabble. Of all things! Well, it rained on Saturday so I can justify staying indoors for the one day, right? *grin*
We are not competitive with too many things, but when it comes to Scrabble (and other word games)….oooh, watch out! We are very serious about our word games – the 300 plus points players. Or maybe just geeks.
