Tote Bag No. 2, Tea Towels and Egg!

I have reached a point where I asking myself questions like… “do I really need to purchase this at the store when I can (or try to) make it at home?” Not that I am so great at sewing, but knowing that I am capable is a great personal achievement. Trust me. *grin* The day you see a title like “Skirt No. 1″ or “Smock No. 1″ on this blog, will be the day that I have accomplished one of my little life goals.

More fabric from purlsoho.com. I love stripes. Pear tote bag with striped side pocket and handles:

Tea towels – they make great gifts!

Nothing like bringing stinky deviled eggs to a little ladies get-together. Really, though….I love egg any time and cooked any way. Seriously. I also brought a sweet pea spread with breadsticks. They were both delicious! I found the recipes in Cottage Living magazine, which we have been receiving on our doorstep for quite some time, but the funny thing is…we never ordered it. I recently found out that my folks bought a subscription as a gift for us, but never told us. *grin* Very cute.

Come To Trinidad, California!

The Andrew Sisters are singing, “Rum and Coca-Cola”, in my head. Oh goodness….I know it is not Jamaica. So, here are a few photos taken by my husband during our mini-vacation to Trinidad (as mentioned in the last entry).

The bed and breakfast, Turtle Rocks Inn, taken from their garden:

A monstrous purple cala lily? If you can name this flower, please let me know! *grin*

Trinidad and Summer Treats

Well, it was difficult coming back home after a relaxing mini-vacation to Trinidad, home of Patrick’s Point State Park. And I really do mean relaxing. My husband picked an amazing place! We stayed in a suite at the Bed & Breakfast, Turtle Rocks Inn – ocean and garden view from the deck, sea lion and bird watching, oversized tub to soak, fresh baked goods and hot and cold beverages at your convenience, and wonderful hosts (husband and wife, Roger and Francine).

I will have photos and more details about Trinidad on the next post, but in the meantime….here are a few things that put a smile on my face:

a summertime treat – vanilla yogurt, bananas, apricots, and blueberries:

Surprise!

Goodbye…. for a few days. It is our third anniversary on Monday and we like to celebrate by taking each other on surprise mini-vacations to a place where we have not been before. Nothing too fancy…we have kept it within California and driving distance so far. He planned our first year and we stayed at the Heritage House in Mendocino (Little River, to be accurate). I planned our second year and we stayed at the Moonstone Cottages by the Sea in Cambria. And now it is his turn again – kind of fun, eh?

One last thing….and this was another surprise. I was watering out in the garden earlier and we now have pumpkin leaves! I am very excited! I planted pumpkin seeds early springtime….I just did not think I would see anything this quickly. It is probably not uncommon, but I have never planted pumpkin before.

Mini Tote Bag No. 1

With all of the craziness this week, I managed to complete my first tote bag. I followed the last half of the instructions in the book, Simple Sewing. I think I’ve mentioned this book a few times. *grin* So, I am pretty pleased with it – I used the Japanese fabric I purchased from purlsoho.com. The only thing I would change are the handles. A solid fabric would have been a better choice. Polka dots are cute, but overall….it might be a little too busy. Let me know what you think!

ISE4 Package Sent – Yay!

Oh, I am very excited! I sent off the package to my scarf partner, Bettina, who lives in Spain, priority mail. She should receive it within six to ten days? Is that right? That seems pretty fast for overseas. Anyway, so here are a couple of photos (not everything) of the packaged goods:

The scarf:

Borzoi-covered stationery:

She loves borzois… so I had to put this together for her. I started out with a colored image of a borzoi, tweaked it in Photoshop, and finished with the silhouette. It is a fairly simple process as most of you probably already know. Anyway, so the rest of the package includes: 2 skeins of yarn – Fiddlesticks zephyr wool-silk and sock yarn, chocolate, a puppy tape measure, and a borzoi mug. I think that is it….hmmm, there might be more.

Please forgive me. My mind is seventy years old. In another forty years, the rest of me might catch up to it.
