Makie

For the moms, moms-to-be, and wanna-be-moms:  Check out Makie Clothier!

I love these looks for children (and adults too!) – neutral tones, simple, sophisticated with cute little details and trimmings.

For little men:

For little women:

For adult women (yes!):

A little side note:   This was my first attempt at sewing a pair of baby bloomers from a Japanese Makie pattern book a few years back.  If you are interested in sewing your own, I purchased my copy here.

Let’s Take A Walk

My husband and I went out on a rainy day to a few antique stores in Healdsburg and found this wonderful children’s book:  Let’s Take A Walk, designed by Aaron Heller and illustrated by Robert Deschamps, published in 1963.  I am usually not one to promote books with just pictures in them – especially for children, but this was an exception.  I love the hand lettering!

Seasons

Another little something fun and child-like.  The only purpose is to put a smile on someone’s face.  If there comes a day when I am completely satisfied with the designs (how likely is this?!), the purpose may change.

Hmmm….the wheels are spinning already.  Spoonflower?

Date Night

Friday night was date night with my husband….yay! He made reservations at the best Indian restaurant in town, the Kabab and Curry House. We ordered masala chai, samosas and garlic naan, which are two of our favorite appetizers. Murgh Begam-Bahar and Malai Kofta were our main dishes. Murgh Begam-Bahar: boneless chicken in an onion based saffron-almond cream curry sauce, topped with scrambled egg (yum!). Malai Kofta: paneer & vegetable dumplings stuffed with raisins and nuts in a melonseed & saffron flavored cream sauce.

After dinner, we stopped at a bookstore and found this:

We do not have children, but as I have mentioned in a previous post….we are collectors of children’s books from the 1950s era. And I am a big fan of most all things Japanese, so this was a great find!

Getting Away To Do Absolutely Nothing

We are so adventurous! My husband and I planned an extended weekend away to do nothing, but that is exactly what you want to be doing if you are going to Clearlake. We brought his guitar, a movie, knitting supplies (for the missing slipper!), reading material, and food. We stayed at a place – thank you, S’mom and Pop – that had a fully equipped kitchen and a barbecue grill on the patio, and a rec room for a bit of activity.

Highlights: banana pancakes for breakfast, watching 21 Up (from the Up series), Towering Inferno, and more episodes of Peter Gunn, playing the pinball machine in the rec room, antique shopping – where I found some vintage buttons and a two dollar Polaroid camera, eating a late lunch at Blue Wing, knitting the other slipper, marinating and grilling steak and zucchinis for dinner, listening to the sounds of my husband’s acoustic guitar playing, and togetherness time.

The buttons….

…a couple of really neat children’s books at the local used book store….

….and tickets from the local frightening grocery store. I apologize if I do offend, but the first thing we saw as we were walking toward the entrance was a transvestite. It was a nice welcome to the area! We named him “Classy Tony” (be sure to have a thick New York accent while saying it) – never mind, it is a Peter Gunn reference. Would anybody be able to tell me what the tickets are for?

Pollock painting? Not quite….and it will have to remain a mystery until Valentine’s Day. Your guesses are welcome. *grin*

A Tale of the Zippered Pouch

Once upon a time….no, no, really. We have quite a collection of childrens’ books/fairy tales from the 1950s with beautiful illustrations. With not having children, a collection like this might seem a little weird. It is the Mary Blair-esque illustrations from that era that we are truly inspired by. Anyway, my husband found this one on Ebay:

One zippered pouch is complete! It doesn’t look too bad, but I goofed. It is pretty obvious from the photo so I will not bother explaining how.
