My great, great grandmother wrote to my grandmother with the loveliest penmanship on these postcards (see below), dated 1930s from Ascona, Switzerland.
Beautiful.

Wishing everyone a very happy holiday season…
…and keep warm (with cocoa and homemade peppermint marshmallows!):
What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Tomorrow with my husband’s aunt, Lucy – I am so excited!:
at the War Memorial Opera House, San Francisco:
Happy 2009 everyone!
Backtracking a little – one of my favorite events from 2008 was attending the Nutcracker at the Wells Fargo Center in Santa Rosa with one of my friends and her daughter, Elisabeth (shown below). I like to go every year – it gives me the “warm fuzzies” in the cold winter months! The same effect as hot cocoa with marshmallows by the fireplace on a chilly night…or a hearty homemade soup after a day in the snow. Okay….you know what I am talking about. *grin*

A poor quality iPhone photo of Elisabeth (cute!) and her doll with Snoopy outside of the Wells Fargo Center:

Welcome to Denver!
Okay….kind of reluctant to post this photo, but this is one of the creepiest things I have ever seen at an airport. This is one of the four (?) murals painted by Leo Tanguma at the DIA. You can find many conspiracies about these murals and the DIA by doing a google search and etc if you are really interested. Be careful, though. You might turn into a paranoid freak and mumble something about the New World Order if you do. I think I will stay far, far away on this one.
Moving onward to something a bit more cheerful. I was playing around with a few photos from our Colorado trip with Poladroid. It is very fun. Once installed, you drag and drop your photo where indicated and you wait for the photo to develop….into a polaroid, of course. Maybe fun is not the right word. Nostalgic may be a little more accurate.
The Balanced Rock at the Garden of the Gods park in Colorado Springs:
My husband and I in front of the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park:
Restaurant recommendations: Mirch Masala in Colorado Springs for Indian and The Egg and I in Estes Park for breakfast. I usually don’t recommend restaurant chains, but we don’t have The Egg and I in California! *grin*
Since we will not be in town…..I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Fourth! We are leaving for Redding tomorrow, visiting the in-laws. It is supposed to be 108 degrees there….did I say “Happy Fourth”? Yeah, a little too warm for any hiking adventures and just about anything else outdoors. Darn!
On a happier note: I made a dessert for the holiday. It is called Blueberry Cookie Pie. You can find the recipe here. I added raspberries and the blue and red stars to this recipe for the festivities. It tastes better than it looks in the photo. Really.
We have a plum tree in the backyard of the house. They are not quite ripe yet, but I was really hoping to bring some with us. My mother-in-law would have loved it! I think they will be ready to pick late July, early August. I can’t wait. I love plums.
