Bravissimo!

As you may (or may not) know, we moved, down-sized, and after two months, I am *still* in the process of tossing, selling, and donating items.  Most of our items fall under the “tossing” category.  You name it, and between husband and myself, we most likely had a collection of it.  That may be slightly exaggerated, but it’s probably closer to the truth than you think.

One example is our small collection of magazines and department store catalogs from the 1960-70s.  Yes, these will be filed in the recycling bin (sorry, husband!), but I am grabbing some pics before I toss them.

The photos below are straight out of a 1970 issue of Redbook.

Italian…chairs…love!

Oh, also, if you are interested, I posted a few more photos from the same magazine here.

My great, great grandmother wrote to my grandmother with the loveliest penmanship on these postcards (see below), dated 1930s from Ascona, Switzerland.

Beautiful.

Invitations for my Dad’s 60th!

My dear dad is turning 60 this year and I made these Italian-inspired invitations for the special occasion.  Why Italian?  Firstly, that is one question you should never have to ask.  *grin*  Secondly, with a last name like Lavagnino, how can you not?

The cover.  If you look close enough (I don’t recommend this), you can see our printer was getting a little tired at this point.  This copy was in the “extras” pile.

The inside (smudged for a little privacy):

The insert:

Pumpkin Cannoli

I hope everyone had a happy, happy Thanksgiving day.  No overeating, right?  My husband and I spent our Thanksgiving with family in So. California (where it does not get cold and takes 4 hours to go 70 miles!).  A short visit, but very nice…. and an exceptional, delicious turkey feast!

Okay…I was debating whether or not to share this dessert recipe or show the photo.  They look *really* gross.  It was the first word that popped into my mind….”gross”.  But they taste very good!  Here is the pumpkin cannoli:

My mistake:  I did not use measuring cups or spoons for the cannoli filling.  So just a little warning… the recipe may not be exact.  The worst thing you might have to do is a lot of taste-testing.  *grin*

Fills 6 cannoli shells

1 cup pumpkin
15 oz ricotta cheese, low-fat
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon (plus more for ends*)
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp ginger
1/2 cup pecans, chopped and toasted (plus more for ends*)

Stir the above ingredients until combined.  Fill pastry bag with the pumpkin mixture and fill pre-made cannoli shells (purchased at your local Italian deli/marketplace).  *Dip ends of cannoli with a little cinnamon and toasted pecans.

Enjoy!
